Incentives

The following benefits are available to students participating in Honors classes:

  • Students that achieve at least a B in their class will have the class count for Honors credit and will have an individual class notation on their transcript. Classes with Honors components will grant grades A-F, pending completion of the class requirements. If they do not complete their projects or work, then they will still have an honors designation on the class taken, but the grade will reflect the effort exerted.
  • Students may be invited to participate at Honors Conferences (i.e., Tennessee Honors Program Conference, HIP Conferences, etc)

Additional benefits are available for those who elect to pursue an Honors-designated degree at Columbia State.  In order to earn an overall degree with honors at Columbia State, the student must complete the following:

  1. The student must conclude their Columbia career with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
  2. The student must complete 15 hours or more of courses with Honors designations with a grade of B or higher in each course.
  3. The student will participate in at least one High Impact Practice event during the course of their Columbia career.

The follow benefits are available to those who pursue such a degree:

  • Students that achieve at least a B in 15 Honors credits or more will be eligible for an Honors Degree designation on their transcript, alongside individual class notations.
  • At graduation, the student will be presented with an honors stole for the students would be available as part of graduation regalia. Honors students will also be announced at graduation.
  • Students may be invited to participate at Honors Conferences (i.e., Tennessee Honors Program Conference, HIP Conferences, etc)
  • The Honors Program will sponsor fieldtrips to cultural events (Nashville Symphony, theatre, the Frist, etc.; Memphis exhibits, …)
  • The student may be eligible for potential transfer scholarships coordinated by both Columbia State and the destination school.
