Choir
The College Choir is one of two music ensembles at Columbia State.
Under the direction of Instructor of Music Holli Scholz, the mixed men's and women's choir performs at a variety of events each semester including the school's end of semester music program as well as Columbia State sporting events. The choir has also sung at the Tennessee Music Educator's Conference, the Tennessee State Museum, the annual Maury County Choral Festival and at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities and at First Presbyterian Church of Columbia.
All students within the College Choir are considered for one of the smaller performance group: Men's Ensemble, Treble Choir, with opportunities for solos, duets and trios.
Attention students: You do NOT have to be a music major in order to join the choir!
Any current student at Columbia State can sign up for choir (MUS 1410 in the college catalog). Auditions for college Choir are held each semester. The student receives one hour elective credit for college choir; four semester hours are required for music majors with a vocal emphasis.
Requirements to receive an A for the course include attending all rehearsals and performances. The choir rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:20 p.m. on the Columbia Campus, Hickman building, room 145. Extra rehearsals are scheduled, as needed for Chamber Ensemble, Treble Choir and Men's Ensemble.
