General Tutoring Appointment Policy
TLC Expectations: Our goal is to help students gain measurable skills to become more confident and independent learners.
- Tutoring appointments are scheduled through the app. Please see Anne Reeves for details on scheduling appointments.
- Appointments may be scheduled up to one week in advance.
- Individual appointments are typically 30 minutes.
- Scheduled appointments are limited to one hour per subject, per day. We ask that you be respectful of other students requiring help and not over-schedule.
- Please note: This policy is dependent on the hours and tutors available for certain subjects such as chemistry; therefore, time will be limited and up to the discretion of the Tutor Coordinators.
- Excessive scheduling of tutoring sessions will be cancelled and student will be notified.
- Examples of Excessive Scheduling:
- Booking two to three one-hour appointments for statistics with the same tutor or different math tutors in one day.
- Scheduling appointments for more than one hour.
- Examples of Excessive Scheduling:
- Please contact Tutor Coordinators for special scheduling requests. Special scheduling requests are processed on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed.
- Some group tutoring may be offered, depending on need.
- If you need to cancel an appointment, please give as much notice as possible so that other students can be scheduled during those times.
- Students who consistently miss appointments without notification could lose their tutoring privileges for the semester.
Friendly Reminders!
- We advise students to work with different tutors to gain a wider range of guidance and experience.
- Please avoid scheduling excessive tutoring sessions with one tutor.
- All of our Columbia State tutors provide exceptional service!
- If you need to cancel an appointment, please give as much notice as possible to allow other students the opportunity to receive assistance.
Student Expectations
The Tutoring and Learning Center provides Columbia State students with free assistance in math, writing, and science in a positive, supportive atmosphere guided by our staff of professional and peer tutors. Our goal is to help you become independent learners and outstanding students.
To help us achieve our goal we’d like to share our expectations for a successful tutoring session:
- Be on time.
- Tell your tutor what you want to achieve during your session.
- Come prepared with specific questions over homework. Bring assignments, notes, textbooks, class material, calculator, flash drives, pencils, pens, etc.
- Actively participate in your tutoring session.
- Attempt to complete some of your homework before seeing a tutor. Remember: Tutors will not do your work for you.
- Schedule another appointment before your leave. Weekly appointments can result in better grades.
- Put away your cell phones. Remember: This is your time.
