John “Jahni” Thomas Moore is an African American artist from Huntsville, AL. He has a master’s degree in art from Alabama A & M University and earned an MFA in studio arts from The Art Institute of Chicago. Jahni is a muralist and has commissioned works for Early Works Children’s Museum, Google Fiber “Space is Our Place” and others in Seattle, Chicago and South America.

Pablo-Rubén consistently takes first place in plein air painting events in his native Spain. He has been awarded more than 300 prizes in Spain and France and has recently won awards at the San Diego Watercolor Society International Exhibition. Travel is an integral part of his life and work. He shares his experience and knowledge with students, maintaining an intense teaching schedule. He has taught workshops in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Portugal, France and Spain.

Linda received her MFA in painting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She lives and works in the hills of rural southwestern Wisconsin. This piece was selected for the American Watercolor Society 155th International Exhibition in 2022.

Jennifer is an alum of Columbia State and received a Rockefeller Scholarship to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN where she exceled in sculpture. Her work is in many private and public collections such as Maury County Courthouse, Williamson County Courthouse, Ryman Auditorium and most recently, James K. and Sarah Polk across from the Polk Home in Columbia, TN.

Ms. Goshorn has been exhibited extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Her baskets and art are in prestigious collections such as the National Museum of the American Indian (Smithsonian, D.C.), Denver Art Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Museum of the Cherokee Indian, Surgut Museum of Art (Russia), and Nordamerika Native Museum (Switzerland). She was awarded many fellowships during her career. Her work focused on human rights for Native American women and bringing attention to their abuse in a non-confrontational manner with her basket weaving. This work was conceived by her during a difficult pregnancy when she was bedridden.

Isaac Duncan III, a Brooklyn, New York native, of Caribbean descent, received his BA of Fine Art from University of Notre Dame, Art Education from St. Mary’s College and MFA from University of Kentucky. He assisted renown sculptor John Henry and in 2008 opened his own studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His large-scale works have been collected by Georgia Institute of Technology, Lexington, KY Diagnostic Center, City of Chattanooga and numerous private art collectors.

Charles Cox (American)

Charles has a BA in art from Lipscomb University and also taught while a student. He has had two one man shows at The Parthenon in Nashville receiving high praise. He worked as an illustrator for 30 years, then retired to paint full-time. He has sold virtually everything he has painted. Awards include “Best in Show” in the 2008 Oil Painters of America Eastern Reginal and several “Awards of Excellence” and “Best of Show” prizes. His work has been collected by Princeton University, David Lipscomb University, Cheekwood Estate & Garden, including corporate and private collections.

Fred Behrens was a founding faculty member at Columbia State. An accomplished artist himself, Behrens was the head of the art department for more than 40 years. He won the college’s Distinguished Faculty Award for his teaching in 1995. He gifted over 100 works to the permanent collection which grace the halls of our campuses. His works range from colorful abstracts to saturated, impressionistic landscapes.

Born in Chile and raised in Belgium, Hannelore is a photographer, entrepreneur, and storyteller. After graduating in 2009 with a degree in photography, she embarked on a three-year project travelling to remote places to capture the planet’s last remaining indigenous tribes with Jimmy Nelson on “Before They Pass Away.” She is working on a Netflix Original documentary series among other projects.

Luigi Kasimir, an Austro-Hungarian born etcher, printmaker, and landscape artist, was born in 1881 in Slovenia. He studied at Vienna Academy of Art under William Unger where he discovered the art of etching. His love of painting combined with the process of etching developed an innovative style of printmaking known as the multiple plate color etching process. For one print he would use as many as six plates. Columbia State is privileged to own twelve of his etchings.

Felix Maxwell is an African American artist from Lewisburg, TN. He holds his fine art degree from The Academy of Art University, San Francisco, CA. He has won many awards with notables from “The Best of Drawing” Science and Industry, Chicago, IL and the Pastel Society of America, New York (Prestigious National Arts Club Award). Mr. Maxwell’s works can be found in public collections such as Dollar General Corporate Collection, Nissan Corporation, Nashville Metropolitan Courthouse and Tennessee State University.

Sharon Rusch Shaver (American)

Sharon has been a working artist in Tennessee for over 40 years. Her paintings continue to receive top awards and recognition. A retrospective of Ms. Shaver’s work was held at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, TN in 2019. She completed over 30 paintings for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in Birmingham and a 100 square foot mural for the U.S. Postal Service office located inside the Frist Art Museum in Nashville, TN. Her work has been collected by Brown-Forman in Louisville, KY, Walmart in Bentonville, AR, Blue Cross in Chattanooga, TN, and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, and a work is in the White House collection from the Tennessee Painting of November 2000. She travels extensively and teaches workshops in oil painting.

Anna Marie holds a BA in Studio Art from University of Minnesota and a BS in Mechanical Engineering. She worked at 3M in Product Development in Austin, TX where she discovered Flatbed Press, a print publishing studio. This led to creating her own studio where she now lives in Frankfort, KY. The intricate nature of her prints addressing environmental concerns has won her may first prize awards. Her works are in public collections such as Hallmark Corporation, Kansas City, MO, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Springfield Museum of Art, Brown Manufacturing Company and many others.
