Columbia State Fishing Club Wins Second Place in Major Tournament

Fishing Team Wins Second Place In Tournament

Columbia State Community College’s fishing club recently placed second in the Abu Garcia College Fishing tournament.

Columbia State students Hunter Jones and Ryan Prince, both from Mount Pleasant, competed in the tournament hosted by Major League Fishing and presented by YETI at Lake Chickamauga with a weigh-in of 15 pounds, 14 ounces.

The club, in just their second year of existence, placed second out of 278 colleges from the southeast.

“There’s a lot of hard work and dedication involved to be able to get to second place,” said Johnny Littrell, athletic director at Columbia State. “That dedication is what makes them so good at what they do.”

Placing in this tournament allows the duo to qualify for the national college tournament in Oklahoma. They also earned $1,000 in winnings to support the future of the club.
