(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - April 9, 2018) - - - Columbia State Community College's Department of Music presents the spring student concert April 19 at 1 p.m. in the Ledbetter Auditorium.

The concert will feature Columbia State's choir under the direction of Emily Gaskill, Columbia State associate professor of music. The program contains a variety of traditional songs from different stylistic periods with a special tribute to the folk song.

The choir will perform folk songs such as "Shady Grove," "How Can I Keep From Singing" and a ballad titled "The Last Rose of Summer." In addition, the choir will perform an arrangement of "Cantate Domino" by contemporary composer Nancy Hill Cobb and an English madrigal by Renaissance composer John Wilbye. The choir is accompanied on piano by adjunct professor Scott Burt.

Also included on the program will be several instrumental and vocal pieces performed by Columbia State music majors. The selections range from a Mozart Sonata, performed by Daniel Millard to a vocal solo arrangement of "At The River," sung by soprano Kamryn Meeks and an Italian duet: "Amor's apprende" by Stefano Donaudy, sung by Logan Martin and Gina Mangiaracina. In addition to these performers, Dr. Mark Lee, professor of music, will direct the instrumental performance ensemble in a piece by Gabriel Faure.

"We have made a special effort this spring to showcase several of our talented students as soloists as well as those performing in small groups," Gaskill said. "I think we can safely say that we have several centuries of music covered in this concert."

The concert is free and open to the public. The Ledbetter Auditorium is in the Frank G. Clement Building on the Columbia Campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike.
