Columbia State To Host Lungs Of Steel Color 5k Run/Walk

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Feb. 15, 2017) - - - Columbia State Community College's Respiratory Care Club, in collaboration with Maury County Parks and Recreation, will host their 9th Annual Lungs of Steel 5K Run/Walk on April 15.

"This year is the first time that the Respiratory Care Club has held a color 5k for the Lungs of Steel run/walk," said R. David Johnson, program director and associate professor of respiratory care at Columbia State. "These students work hard and the money goes to worthwhile causes. I look forward to another successful 5k."

The 5k run/walk will take place at Maury County Park in Columbia. This year's run/walk is a color 5k featuring bursts of colored powder around the race route. Participants are encouraged to wear white and bring a change of clothes for the ride home. Participants are advised to use their own discretion with taking phones, cameras or other devices on the run. People with lung conditions should participate with caution.

The pre-registration deadline is April 4. It is $25 to pre-register. Pre-registration for kids 12 and under is $10 each. Early registrants will receive a T-shirt. Race-day registration begins at 8 a.m. and is $35 for the 5k run/walk, $15 for kids 12 and under. The race will begin at 9 a.m.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Respiratory Care Club also uses this event to raise money to attend the respiratory care state convention.
