Columbia State Department of Music Presents its Fall Concert

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Nov. 16, 2015) --- Columbia State Community College's Department of Music will present its fall concert on Thursday, November 19 at 1 p.m. in the Ledbetter Auditorium.

The program will include instrumental and choral selections performed by Columbia State students featuring the Columbia State Choir under the direction of Emily Gaskill, associate professor of music. Also included in the concert are members of the Instrumental Performance Ensemble, led by Dr. Mark Lee, professor of music.

"The students have had fun working on this year's fall program," Gaskill remarked. "The concert includes a couple of holiday songs including Carol of the Bells and an arrangement of Pat-a-pan with flute soloist Chassi Owen."

Other traditional songs include Celebrate Music by contemporary composer Joseph M. Martin and Jubilate, Alleluia by Mary Lynn Lightfoot. Music major Nick Holt will entertain the audience on the saxophone while the choir sings the spiritual Can't Carry These Burdens Along. There is a wide range of styles in these and other pieces performed by Columbia State students. The program will end with a riveting Haitian piece called Wangol, performed by the choir and several percussionists.

The concert is free and open to the public. The Ledbetter Auditorium is in the Frank G. Clement Building on the Columbia Campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike.
