Modern "Romeo and Juliet" Comes to Cherry Theater

In conjunction with the Lyceum Committee and the humanities department, Columbia State Community College presents the Day and Night Theatre Company's modern production of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Cherry Theater.

Directed by Lenny West, former Columbia State student, the production features a theater troupe comprised of Columbia State commercial entertainment graduates and former students, including Josh Lowery as Romeo and Teriney Crawford as Juliet.

The Cherry Theater is in the Waymon L. Hickman building on the Columbia campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. The performance is free and open to the public.

Columbia State's commercial entertainment program is unique in that students learn all aspects of the performance industry-commercial voice, dance, studio recording, songwriting, acting and stagecraft-in a concentrated amount of time. The department specializes in recording artist development, providing the aspiring country or pop artist with vocal, showcasing, recording and songwriting skills.

Columbia State offers a two-year transfer degree in commercial entertainment as well as one-year technical certificate with options for contemporary singers, actors and dancers, as well as musicians and songwriters.
