Workforce Development Classes Set For December

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Nov. 27, 2013) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development is offering a variety of professional development courses at the Columbia campus during the month of December. Courses include computer, health care and leadership for anyone who would like to learn new skills or refresh the skills they already have.

"Criminal Interdiction Training for Law Enforcement" is a 40-hour TN POST approved course that will teach proper techniques and procedures for effectively and lawfully conducting traffic stops, collection of evidence, civil seizures involving U.S. currency, and report writing and courtroom testimony. This class will take place Dec. 2-6.

"Pharmacy Technician Certificate" is a popular medical certificate program that qualifies the student for immediate employment in Tennessee's growing health care industry. This 50-hour class will be offered at the Columbia campus Dec. 3 to Jan. 30.

The "Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider" course reviews basic life support and airway obstruction. Students will be working with mannequins to practice and perfect skills. This class will be offered at the Columbia campus Friday, Dec. 6.

"Intermediate Excel 2010" will teach students how to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, and format worksheets using mathematical formulas. This class will take place on the Columbia campus on Friday, Dec. 6.

The U.S. health industry faces a formidable task of preparing for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision implementation. The "Medical Coding: Transition to ICD10" class will help medical office personnel to better understand the changes, learn how to use the new codes, and help prepare a strategy to be ICD - 10 ready by the October 2014 compliance date. This class will take place at the Columbia campus Dec. 6 - 7.

Those who attend "Fostering Innovation" will be able to help their teams contribute to business objectives when they focus on innovation opportunities that will help their customers meet their objectives, build robust innovative ideas that consider many perspectives, learn and benefit from both success and failure, work together to advocate for the innovation and ensure that valuable new ideas are not lost. This class will take place Friday, Dec. 6 at the Columbia campus.

"Intermediate Quickbooks 2013" will provide instruction on banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, and more. This course will be offered Friday, Dec. 7.

The "Online Medical Transcription" program teaches students how to transcribe recordings and create medical reports in order to prepare for a career as a medical transcriptionist. This class begins Dec. 9.

"Retention Interviewing Skills" helps interviewers make the best hiring decisions when they gather meaningful, job-related information from applicants. This course teaches participants how to interview for the behaviors, knowledge and motivations that are needed to be successful in a job. This 8-hour class will take place Dec. 13.

"Introduction to PowerPoint 2010" will teach students how to create professional-quality slide presentations that grab and hold your audience's attention from start to finish, while exploring the latest features of Microsoft PowerPoint. This class takes place on the Columbia campus Dec. 13.

"Maintenance Related TOSHA Standards" - This Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration course covers compliance and safety responsibilities such as lockout/tagout overview, common electrical hazards, health hazards and other topics. This class takes place Dec 13.
