(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Sep. 4, 2013) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development is offering a variety of professional development courses, including computer, health care, leadership fundamentals and workplace regulations, for anyone who would like to learn new skills or refresh the skills they already have.

Introduction to Word 2010 is a hands-on class in which participants will learn how to do basic editing and use document layout features of the popular word processing software. This class will take place Sept. 20 on the Columbia campus.

The Introduction to QuickBooks 2013 course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, and protecting and backing up data, as well as other updates from the 2013 software. This class will take place Sept. 27 on the Columbia campus.

Programmable logic controllers are digital computers used for automation of electromechanical processes used to control machinery. PLC Bootcamp is a combination of both the basic and intermediate PLC classes in which individuals will learn to generate better equipment performance, optimize the control system, increase troubleshooting ability, and many other automated electromechanical processes. This course will meet at the Columbia campus Sept. 9 - 13.

The OSHA 300 Recordkeeping workshop provides practical, hands-on training and information on the recordkeeping system and the OSHA 300 LOG. This class takes place Friday, Sept. 13 on the Columbia campus.

Medical coders are professionals skilled in classifying medical data from patients' records. Coding practitioners review patients' records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. The Online Medical Coding course begins Sept. 23.

Learn how to amend patients' records, edit documents from speech recognition systems, and identify discrepancies in medical reports. The Online Medical Transcription course begins Sept. 9.

Pharmacy Technician Certificate is a popular live-lecture medical certificate program where students can earn a pharmacy technician certificate. This course helps qualify the student for immediate employment in Tennessee's growing health care industry. The course takes place Sept. 24 through Nov. 12 at the Columbia campus.

Fundamentals of Real Estate is a course that covers a large portion of the Tennessee Real Estate Commission's pre-license course requirements. Topics include the real estate business, agency relationship contracts, valuation and finance. This course will meet at the Columbia campus Sept. 10 through Dec. 17.

Setting Performance Expectations is offered in conjunction with the Leadership Series. This class helps leaders to ensure mutual understanding of performance expectations, to help others identify performance expectations that align with an organization's goals, improve individual or team commitment in order to fulfill the expectations in the performance plan, and handle challenging situations that can arise during setting expectations discussions. This class will be offered Sept. 19.
