WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COURSES SLATED FOR FEBRUARY
(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Jan. 23, 2012) - - - If you want to develop new skills, improve your organization's performance or learn something new, Columbia State Community College's Center for Workforce Development is a great place to start.
Introduction to PowerPoint 2010 teaches students how to create professional quality slide presentations that grab and hold your audience's attention from start to finish. Students will explore the latest features of PowerPoint, from the all-new file menu to the backstage view. Find out how to create dazzling presentations formatted with themes and a variety of slide layouts. Learn how to embellish slides with text, objects, SmartArt, multimedia, animation, sound, charts, clip art and hyperlinks. This class takes place at the Columbia campus on Friday, Feb. 1.
Microsoft Project 2010 teaches how to effectively plan, implement and control projects using Microsoft Project 2010. Learn how to use Microsoft Project to think through and organize a project's details, plan a schedule, sequence tasks, produce a baseline, assign resources and costs, track your progress, identify and analyze variances, and revise your project plan. This class takes place at the Columbia campus on Friday, Feb. 8.
Introduction to Graphic Information Systems covers basic skills involved in using GIS software. Learn how to display data, search data, edit data and produce simple maps. In addition, students have the opportunity to apply what they have learned to projects similar to what they would do on the job. The class meets for five weeks at the Columbia Campus beginning Tuesday, Feb. 5.
Students taking Essentials of Leadership will learn how to evaluate the use of important leadership behaviors and identify leadership strengths and areas for development, as well as assessing communication skills and skills needing to develop further. The class takes place Thursday, Feb. 7.
Introduction to Excel 2010 teaches students how to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, format worksheets using mathematical formulas. The course is on Friday, Feb. 15.
Getting Started As a New Leader is a class in which students learn how to quickly and effectively achieve results in a new role as a leader; focus time and effort on high-priority tasks; effectively lead teams to contribute to the organization's business strategies; and achieve results through others by building strong relationships with team members. This class will be on Thursday, Feb. 21.
Introduction to Word 2010 is a hands-on class in which students will learn how to add, move through and edit text, move words from one part of a document to another, work on two or more documents simultaneously, change the size or appearance of text, change margins and tab settings, run grammar and spell check, use the thesaurus, and save and retrieve, copy, organize and print documents. The class will be on the Columbia campus on Friday, Feb. 22.
Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, and more. This class will take place at the Franklin campus on Saturday Feb. 23.
Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate trains students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research, and legal writing and appellate procedure. This six-weekend begins Saturday, Feb. 23.
