Mayor Honors Interim Nursing Director

Columbia State Students Show Appreciation for Faculty Member

On May 11, Columbia State Community College's interim program director for nursing Barbara Blum was honored by students for her hard work and dedication. Mayor James L. Bailey of Maury County declared it Barbara Blum Day in Columbia.

"I was really surprised," said Blum while discussing the received act of gratitude.

Students thought she deserved her own day and collaborated to make it happen.

"She is always there for the students and willing to talk," said Columbia State alumnus, Dennis Gorniak. "Her door is always open and she really deserves this honor."

Blum was presented with a framed proclamation by the mayor at Columbia State's Pinning Ceremony which was held on May 11. The Pinning Ceremony is an event where graduating nurses are honored, symbolizing the transition from student to professional.

"The students are the best part of my job," explained Blum. "I knew they were up to something, but I really wasn't expecting this."

Blum, who has been an employee at Columbia State for the last six years, says that the secret to her success is hard work, dedication, a good sense of priority, and a sense of humor.
