HISTORY DEPARTMENT TO HOST ARTICLE II DISCUSSION

Discussion Free and Open to the Public Tuesday, Sept. 25

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Sept. 12, 2012) - - - Article II of the Constitution of the United States establishes the Office of the President and all of the executive office powers. The Founding Fathers, concerned themselves with establishing limits, but there have always been areas of debate about the interpretations of those limits. Such is the topic of Columbia State Community College's history department panel discussion on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Joining the panel of presenters are Barry Gidcomb, D.A., professor of history; Thomas Flagel, assistant professor of history; Jan de la Mer, Ph.D., assistant professor of history; and Greg Mewbourn, instructor of history.
"The United States Congress has mandated that colleges present educational programming about the Constitution every year," Gidcomb said. "We believe that in a presidential election year, there is no more important subject than understanding the position that the two candidates and their running mates are seeking to fill."
The discussion will happen live in room 121 of the Hickman building on the Columbia campus but will also be live broadcast to the other campuses in the following locations:
Williamson County campus - room 101
Lawrence County campus - room 112
Lewisburg campus - room 104
