Faculty President Participates In Workshop
Dr. Barry Gidcomb to Attend American History Workshop
Columbia State Community College's faculty senate president Dr. Barry Gidcomb has been selected to participate in the National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks in American History and Culture Workshop for Community College Faculty from July 12-18 in Boston.
Dr. Gidcomb will utilize what he learns in workshops to enhance Columbia State students' learning," said Cathryn McDonald, vice president of academic affairs at Columbia State. "We're very excited and proud that he's been selected for this opportunity."
The one-week workshop provides community college educators with the opportunity to gain a sense of the importance of historical places and to make connections between what they learn in the workshop and what they teach in the classroom. It will also enable them to advance their own learning and to develop enhanced teaching materials for their classrooms.
The workshop is a part of the National Endowment for the Humanities We the People program which is designed to encourage and enhance the teaching, study, and the understanding of American History, culture, and democratic principles. The National Endowment for the Humanities is offering six different workshops this summer. Dr. Gidcomb will be attending Encountering John Adams: Boston and Braintree.
