Columbia, Tenn. - October 4, 2010) - Columbia State Community College will once again host the Duck River Woodturning Club and the Wood Den Carvers' displaying their handiwork for the month of October in the Pryor Art Gallery on the Columbia Campus.

Both groups are long organized associations of Maury County wood turners and carvers who meet monthly to share projects, learn new skills, and teach the novice. Duck River Turners, Andy Woodard, Jim Greenwood, Mike Zinser, Bill Summar, Al Flatt, and Ron Rerreira will each be bringing several platters, inside out turnings, bowls, vases, and hollow forms. Their wood supply is derived from trees cut or pruned for road or home construction or from standing dead timber that must be cleared. All are environmentalists, tuned into the miracle of trees!

Similarly, Wood Den Carvers, Jake Caskey, Berry Vestal, Andy Woodard, Randy Walker, Tom Flanigan, Jack and Susie Atnip, and Randy Walters will bring Santa Clauses, caricatures, animals, human busts, birds, deep relief pictorial scenes, walking canes, and mantles. This club is part of the nationwide Eagle Cane Program, which provides custom carved walking canes to U.S. soldiers who have been wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Selected works will be for sale. The Pryor Art Gallery is located in the Waymon L. Hickman building on Columbia State's Columbia Campus. The Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The gallery is also open on weekends during special events. Both the exhibit and the artist reception are free and open to the public.
